Small Town Boy

I was a small town boy. Though mine was a navel town with lots of navy boys meeting in toilets at 2am for the sex that they needed but dare not speak ok.

The town I was in was quite homophobic more born out of ignorance  - but then we also did not like the French or anyone that was different. Typically in all such places there is a outcast undercurrent. Since the mainstream has rejected you or pre-ejected you by their value system you rebel and join the outcasts.

In general the many  outcasts types you will fine one for you. This is also part of just being different from your parents, asserting your individuality as you grow up.

The typical route is escape.

1. Got to University - here this is freedom to be yourself and a wide diversity. of people.
2. Go to your nearest big city - here there is anonymity, here you can be yourself.

This is all well and good unless you are a 14yo still at school. You are venerable to bigots such as your parents, people at school and so on.
In my youth I would go an visit my sister who was at the university in the city I now live in - returning home it still feels like I am going back 10 years. It may be bigoted, but I view the town as full of 'in-breeds' (it is on a peninsula -with one road in)  - yes as a kid it was a paradise playground to grow up in, a place where you could leave your doors unlocked without a worry.

Get a Plan

• Make sure that you are Straight Acting so you fit in with your peers - however do not get involved with sex as you do not want to be forced into the Marriage to maintain some honour for parents or other people. Its hard to live a lie, it will fuck you up, there is no point causing problems for you, your wife and your babies - and paying for it till they are adults.
   
• You need to ensure you get the best education that you can - that your are skilled or talented so that you can be independent as soon as possible.  Your goal would be to move to a place where you can be yourself and not be victim of the prejudice of others insecurities.
   
• Get rescued by Master who will take me away to utopia - this is leaving too much to chance.
  What if this 'Master' will abuse you and leave you for dead?
  There are many slaves African and Arab countries where they work to live and have no choice/care or regard from their owners - Do you want to be reduced to the value of a AAA battery ?

Problems are relative

If you are in the Bible Belt in central USA there is one view if you are in San Francisco your problems are in a different league. You still face fear of the unknown. You have to be aware of the norms of where you are.
In general the USA is fractured into the religious extremist and in the same country you have one of the biggest porn industries. Where as in the USA some 80% of the population go to Church in Europe its is more like 20% of the population. There is more political correctness and counties affected by the Nazi Holocaust there  is sensitivity to  intolerance.

• Get a support system - On the internet there are any communities that have liked minded people just like you.
  Statistically you are not the only gay in the village!
  Where the Internet is infinite, your support system can be just as big.
• In general you have to be brave and front it  - that is act confident that you have every right to be different. Don't  confuse 'Normal' and 'Average'.  In a numbers game on average most people are heterosexual - people are gay genetically. There will be religious groups that pander to liberal cultures (eg in Europe) so say that it is part of their religion to persecute gays, but you cannot condemn them!
  This is the problems of Liberal Democracies - you open the door to your killer.
• What's the worst that could happen?
  How likely is it that you are going to be killed for being different? Like in many Muslim countries they are not keen of personal freedom, especially for women and gays. In the UK Muslims did not want their female children to be taught to swim - only the boys. There is only one place for women!
  The killing in the USA of a gay teenage law student horrified much of Europe  - that he could be tortured by some 'red necks' and then crucified left to die. 
  
  So if you are in a high risk community  - plan your escape.
   

  Many of these high risk communities are being educated with the advent of Satellite TV which knows no bounds. It invades the boundaries of the insecure and causes the fall of communism (or was it due to their economy :) - The internet is much the same. 
  
  The insecure cannot abide 'live and let live' they have to kill it just in case.

  However it was only the bravery of women in the UK that won them the vote and so on.

  It is normal for the oppressed to take comfort in the oppression of others as it takes the attention off of them.

  It might look all very gloomy  - but the plus side of small town/village life is that if you are perceived as one of them, they will back 'one of their own' despite you being 'different' as you are still one of them and they protect their own from outsiders.
