De la nourriture des animaux
(About Pet Feeding)

Since French cooking, along with Italian, Spanish or Turkish cooking have reached a high level of development within the past centuries, it is not unexpected that a French Master adds his two pennies about 'gastronome' in this section devoted to Pet Feeding.

As a preliminary remark, it sounds quite odd for a Master to spend time on such a topic. Moreover I can already hear rough-type colleagues who will even argue that it a *waste of time*. I will answer this: On the one hand I agree that common sense invites us to feed our animals with a minimum of waste and money. But on the other hand, one obviously knows this most enjoyable feeling which consists in preparing some very special food for The Belovedth. So, let's make a clear-cut distinction between week food and Sunday festive meals. I will briefly deal with the two types.

Sunday festive meals
Soupe de légumes (vegetable soup)

1) Boil two litre of water. Pour in sliced carrots, potatoes, challots and leek, add some roughly cut tomatoes for the colour. Reduce the heat and let the soup simmer during one hour. 2) Crumble a hamburger and add the pieces into the liquid with thyme and laurel, seasonings and herbs. Cook five minutes and serve warm, not hot, directly in the bowl.

Marinade de porc à l'ananas
(pork and pineapple marinade)

The day before. Slice two cutlets and one pineapple into thin pieces. Keep them in a mixture made of half a bottle of sweet white wine and seasonings during the night in your refrigerator.

One hour before. Pour the mixture into a colander and let meat and fruit dry as much as possible. In a large pan, warm one large spoon of butter and some pure olive oil, add two sliced challots and cook in mild heat during five minutes. Add a tea spoon of flour and increase the heat. When the colour becomes light brown, add the meat and pineapple, let it burn a little and add the marinade liquid. Let the mixture reduce to a third during half an hour. Serve straightforwardly in the bowl.

Note: Of course, these two recipes will be improved and varied with the help of doggie : does it like cinnamon ? Don't hesitate to use cinnamon with pineapple, their taste melt efficiently. Ad libitum, as would say our Latin ancestors.

Casual week food.

I can only give guidelines here, since we all know how easy doggie is to be fed. Important warning: At first sight, you would think of Imperial Dog (funny name, isn't it?) or Royal Canine, or any special dog mixture of oats and cereals that your are invited to melt with water or milk. But in fact you are never sure what kind of shit they put therein: I would advise something more human (for once !) : Just use *your* favourite oats and prepare them the way it likes them (don't try to prepare the same for you and for it or the shame be on you). Don't forget to add meat and/or vegetables regularly. For this purpose, you will use the fatty from your own meat dishes and the peelings from your vegetables.

I shall not conclude these guidelines without saying a word about Punishment Food (?). Has doggie been nasty to you ? Did it bite you this morning cause you couldn't wake up ? Be sure it will not forget it: First principle: Doggie hates cinnamon ? Put cinnamon in its daily mash. Second principle : Change its beverage for recycled beer, and its food for - well you know, don't you ?
