Why give?

thedoghouse.org is an all-volunteer organization that relies on the contributions of its members to operate and function. Thanks in part to the generous commitment of the web community, thedoghouse.org provides renowned resources and information to the web development community without advertisements. Here is a list of some of the services we provide:

• Member Contacts.
  Currently provides free hosting for web developers looking to enhance their skill set with familiar or unfamiliar technologies (like Cold Fusion, PHP, ASP, MySQL, Oracle, Perl, and Python).
• The Browser Archive
  The largest browser archive available anywhere!
• Articles, etc.
  Articles, tutorials and news items written by our members and available free to any visitor.
• List Servs
  Numerous email lists to help disseminate knowledge to the web development community, and to help run thedoghouse.org.
• The Directory Project
  A searchable directory containing links covering web design and development.

The opportunities and services we provide are an increasing drain financially. Bandwidth costs are our biggest expenditure; we currently transfer 140 GB/month, and that usage is growing. Hence, the need to ask for your help.

We welcome many types of contributions. Spare parts you may have, articles you may want to write, or the willingness to help out other web developers are all appreciated.

Sometimes the easiest way for to show support is to contribute monetarily. While we don't ask for any set amount of money—every bit helps after all—ask yourself how much the services provided by thedoghouse.org are worth to you. Whether you can give $2 or $100, your support directly helps your fellow web developers learn from and support each other through thedoghouse.org

I've used US dollars in the examples to make them simple, but it doesn't matter what your currency is, you can still help.

We're sensitive to the fact that the exchange rate and cost of living is very different in different countries. All gifts, of all sizes, are most welcome and help thedoghouse.org provide its services.

What you give vs. what we get

Please note: Because of their fees, a lump sum sent through PayPal is more effective than the same amount spread over 12 monthly gifts. PayPal charges us 30 cents plus 2.9% for all monies received so PayPal skims a larger cut off small amounts.

If you know of a service which takes less of your gift, especially those in other countries, please let us know.

When giving through PayPal:

• If you give $2.50 a month ($30 in a year) thedoghouse.org gets $25.56 after PayPal takes a whopping 14.4% cut to convert your gift into thedoghouse.org services.
• If you give a single annual gift of $30, PayPal takes less than a dollar to process that payment - about 3%.

In fact, you could even give $27 (10% less) and still end up with thedoghouse.org being able to do more with your gift than if you gave $2.50 a month.
